Does God Get a Kick Out of Chance Encounters?

It’s funny how God works sometimes. Not in grand miracles we read about in scripture, but in small, seemingly insignificant moments that suddenly illuminate the purpose of our day. Last night, as I was picking up hay for my animals, I ran into someone I wasn’t expecting to see—a man scheduled to help me with AI for my cows later this week.

The odds of this meeting happening were slim. He lives in one direction, I live in another, and yet, there we were, face to face. It was nothing monumental, but it struck me as a perfect illustration of God orchestrating our lives, even in ways that seem trivial.

Moments like these remind me of what Jesus said: “Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added unto you.” At first, I didn’t understand what that meant. I assumed it was about prayer and scripture alone, but now I see it can also mean keeping your mind and heart open as you move through life—being aware of the ways God subtly guides, nudges, and sets us up for growth, understanding, or connection.

Our day-to-day lives are full of these divine breadcrumbs. If we train our eyes to see them, we gain a richness to ordinary experiences that others might overlook. A conversation, a meeting, a chance encounter—they are all opportunities to notice God’s hand and grow in awareness.

Next time you find yourself in a small, unexpected moment, pause. Reflect. Consider how God may be orchestrating events not just for your benefit, but to teach you, guide you, and remind you that nothing in your life is truly random.

We are created to notice, to reflect, and to walk closely with Him. And in doing so, even the simplest encounters become sacred lessons in how to seek first His kingdom.
